Before we get to the videos, please take a few things into consideration.

A virus can be as simple as something that attaches itself to one of your files, distributes itself out to your mail lists held on your computer, attaching themselves to your friend's computer mail lists, and multiplying in that fashion - not doing anything dangerous, just being annoying.

On the other hand, there are some that are devastating with the potential of wiping out most of your  hard drive.  Make sure you see Backing Up, for the best protection against this.

Purchasing commercial software to protect against virus attacks are your best bet - let the professionals keep up with each new virus that comes out and fight them for you.  Your computer, however, is ONLY as safe as your DAT files.  These are the files that are updated with Virus Signatures, telling the software what to look for.

Consider this - if a new virus comes out today that may make it to your computer, software will catch it only after you update with the latest virus signatures once the software company updates their DAT files.  If you update tomorrow, you have the best chance of catching the virus attacks released today.  Never, ever use a product out of the box without updating these.  The protection typically is only from the release date of the software.
